Two cheat death as truck overturns in Machakos

Three people have escaped death after a truck they were travelling in overturned along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway in Machakos County.

The trio, who included the vehicle's driver and two turnboys, escaped unhurt during the incident that occurred at Devki Stage in Athi River on Wednesday evening.

Eyewitnesses said the accident happened when the vehicle's driver was negotiating a corner at the Mombasa road underpass.

"The vehicle was moving from Nairobi towards Athi River town when it overturned; none of its occupants got injured," an eyewitness told the Star at the scene shortly after the incident happened.

The truck was ferrying scrap wire when the accident happened.

Traffic officers from Athi River police station responded to the scene, processed it, and cleared it before the motor vehicle was towed to the station awaiting inspection.

The incident happened five days after two people died and another one was injured in a grisly accident along the same highway.

The duo died on the spot after the vehicle they were travelling in got involved in an accident in the Maanzoni area last Thursday.

The injured victim was rushed to Machakos Level 5 hospital for medication as the bodies were removed to the same facility's mortuary.

The incident involved two buses whose wreckage was towed to the Kyumbi police station for inspection and necessary action.
