The government has initiated plans to reclaim alleged grabbed lands in Nairobi’s South B.

The Cabinet Secretary for Lands and Public Works Alice Wahome met residents on Monday led by area MCA Waithera Chege.

The residents had petitioned the State to intervene and help them reclaim the pieces of land that had been grabbed.

‘‘To tell the truth, there is no land to even build the office of the OCS so we have agreed that they bring a list of pieces of land they believe have been grabbed so that we can compare with our records‘‘, CS Wahome said.

CS Wahome pledged to return any public land that has been grabbed after the completion of the process.

‘‘I will even write to the EACC seeking their help where possible to ensure that we reclaim grabbed land," she added.

On her part, Chege applauded the progress saying land grabbers have made it impossible for the construction of a public market.

‘‘Private investors including former politicians have grabbed land belonging to Kenyans yet the majority of residents are traders who have even held protests to reclaim their land," Chege said as she addressed residents.

In February 2024, the residents held demonstrations to protest against alleged land grabbing.

The contested land, earmarked for the construction of a market, became the focal point of their protest.

Carrying placards with messages, the residents called for President William Ruto’s intervention to address the situation.

“Stop land corruption. Let’s expose land grabbing, our future is in danger,” women were seen chanting.
