Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and his cabinet have approved the rollout of a new management structure to the City's Level Four Hospitals that mirrors the Level 5 facilities.

The County Executives meeting approved the decision in a sitting chaired by Sakaja.

This now means that Level 4 hospitals in Nairobi will now be headed by a Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Earlier, the hospitals were managed by a medical superintendent.

"The primary objective is to fill board vacancies in compliance with the Public Finance Management (PFM) Act of 2012 and the Facilities Improvement Financing (FIF) Act of 2023,” Governor Sakaja stated.

The new structure is expected to bring enhanced governance and operational efficiency to the healthcare facilities.

To align the hospitals with key legislative frameworks, the Cabinet also addressed the urgent need to establish boards for these institutions.

Among the key facilities to be affected by the new leadership structure is Mama Margaret Uhuru Hospital among others.

The new management structure is expected to enhance accountability and operational efficiency.

"By appointing qualified and dedicated board members, the county ensures that health institutions are better equipped to meet the needs of Nairobi's growing population, ultimately enhancing healthcare delivery across the region," Governor Sakaja said.

"The county aims to bolster the financial management and transparency of its health institutions. This initiative forms part of Nairobi County's broader commitment to improving healthcare services for its residents."

Sakaja said his administration remains steadfast in its dedication to the health and well-being of its residents.
