Four people died in a grisly road accident at Kasimba junction near Oyugis town on Thursday evening.                                                                        The

The accident involved a lorry and a motorcycle along the Kisii-Oyugis road in Kasupil constituency.

Those who lost their lives include two men and a woman.

It was reported that the accident occurred when the lorry which was carrying soap stones from Kisii town hit the motorcycle.

The motorcycle was carrying three passengers from Nyang’iela trading centre towards Oyugis town.

"The lorry hit the motorcycle as it tried to negotiate a corner to enter the junction of  Rodi Kopany- Kasimba road and Kisii- Oyugis road.

"They died on the spot," resident Charles Okach said.

It was reported that the bod boda rider entered the highway at high speed before the accident occurred.

Okach said both the motorcycle and the lorry were speeding.

“We heard the lorry hooting to inform the rider to move from the road but it was too late because both of them were moving at very high speed,” Okach said.

After hitting the passengers, the lorry lost control and overturned by the roadside.

“We suddenly saw the lorry overturning by the roadside. It left the passengers’ bodies in a very sorry state,” Okach said.

Residents called on the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) to erect bumps on the two roads to reduce road carnage.

Another resident Stephen Oindo argued that lack of the bumps predispose road users to accidents in the area.

“We appeal to KeNHA to erect the bumps on these roads. This will save lives here” Oindo said.

The lorry driver and his passenger have been hospitalised.

Speaking after the incident, Rachuonyo South Sub-county Police Commander Lilies Wachira said they towed down the lorry and motorcycle for inspection.

Wachira urged road users to be careful by observing traffic rules to avoid road accidents.

“Let drivers and riders observe traffic rules. This will help us reduce accidents and loss of lives,” Wachira said.

She also urged residents to be careful with bodaboda riders who carry them. “

We want residents to board bodaboda whose riders are qualified to avoid road account accidents,” she added.
