Police pursue woman who allegedly abandoned child, 3, at hospital in Nyamira

Police boss Isaac Sang says the child will be taken to a facility Kisumu as probe continues

Police in Nyamira South subcounty are in pursuit of a middle-aged woman who allegedly abandoned a three-year-old child at the Nyamira Referral Hospital.

According to the Hospital Deputy Medical superintendent Angela Kerubo, the child was abandoned at the hospital outpatient wing and the same was reported to the Children's offices within Nyamira and subsequent reports made at the Nyamira police station.

However, the child did not have any documentation that would help police officers or even the hospital management to easily identify him.

Nyamira South subcounty police boss Isaac Sang said the child has been handed over to the hospital for a one-night safety care before being taken to Hope Alive in Kisumu county.

“We will have the child taken to the Kisumu Hope Alive Centre as our officers carry out investigations to know who left the child at the facility. We will give you a report on the progress of the matter with time,” the police boss said.

He said the efforts to trace the mother of the child are underway, he urged residents to be responsible with their children instead of abandoning them.
