Protests in Kisumu which started peacefully have now turned into running battles between the police and protesters as the security agencies lobbed teargas to disperse the protesters.

Hundreds of protesters took to their heels as they scampered to safety along the Oginga Odinga and Kenyatta Highway streets.

Earlier, the protesters chided there is no successful protest in Kisumu without teargas.

Police officers in Land Cruisers lobbed teargas to disperse the protesters.

The protesters were chased towards Kondele with the majority of them escaping using motorbikes while some fled into the corridors of the shops.

At Kisumu Boys roundabout, the protesters lit bonfires demanding rejection of the Bill they termed punitive.

The protests has now turned into 'cat and mouse game' as police chased the protesters away, they come back onto the streets a few minutes later.

Some are armed with water bottles while others have covered their faces as they carry placards and twigs.
