Travellers using the Narok- Kaplong highway and residents of South Rift have a reason to smile after Tenwek Mission Hospital unveiled a Sh130 million accident and emergency centre.

The ultra-modern facility with state-of-the-art equipment will boost the hospital’s response to accidents along the busy road.

The unveiling of the facility follows a spate of road accidents.

The new unit will help deal with congestion and other urgent medical needs that occasion immense pressure.

During the launch, hospital CEO Ben Siele said the unit can accommodate more than 250 emergency cases.

“Today marks a significant milestone as AGC Tenwek Hospital unveils its state-of-the-art Accident and Emergency (A&E) Building.’’

“It is the biggest accident and emergency facility in this region and I am happy that the launch of this facility will go a long way in boosting our response to emergencies,’’ Siele said.

Siele said the facility will continue to offer affordable services to patients seeking health services, with professionalism.

“We are committed to working with the government to improve health care turnaround to ensure access to affordable and efficient medical services,’’ he said.

Dr Rebecca Kiptui, Head of Curative Services, representing the Director General for Health, Dr Patrick Amoth, presided over the event.

Kiptui challenged the hospital to digitise services and work closely with the ministry, including the county government to improve service delivery.

She lauded efforts to provide excellent hospitality, especially at the cardiothoracic centre.

“I want to challenge the hospital to continue collaborating with the government because faith-based institutions play a key role in health care,’’ he said.

The new A&E facility boasts a 16-bed capacity and cutting-edge medical equipment, including advanced digital cardiac monitors.

The upgrade enhances the hospital’s ability to deliver timely and efficient care for emergency cases, reinforcing its role as a key healthcare provider in the region.

This comes as AGC Tenwek Hospital prepares for the upcoming launch of the Cardiothoracic Centre, officiated by President William Ruto next month.

The Ministry of Health has continued to back such initiatives, aligning with the national government's agenda to improve healthcare across the country in line with the universal healthcare objectives.
