The government will soon open the NCPB depots and start buying maize from farmers, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said.

Speaking in Eldoret on Tuesday, Gachagua said the government will also announce the price per bag of maize.

The DP spoke while launching the tarmacking of National Oil-Reale Hospital-Sports Club-Bishop Muge Road in Kesses Constituency in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

He also promised farmers that payments will be prompt upon delivery of their maize to the NCPB depots.

"Farmers will be paid immediately they deliver their maize and there will be no delays as was the case in the past," Gachagua said.

Gachagua said following the distribution of subsidised fertiliser farmers were now expecting a bumper harvest.

He said the government would restart the second round of registering farmers and those who missed out will get a chance to benefit from the programme.

Gachagua said the government is committed to helping farmers produce adequate food for the country.

He was accompanied by Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen and Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii and Senator Jackson Mandago.
