Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has made a surprise visit to assess health services provision in hospitals in Eldoret town.

The assessment began at the Pioneer Health Centre which serves the populous Langas and Kipkaren estates.

Despite the impromptu visit, Bii found all staff in attendance and services running smoothly.

“I am happy that you are working hard to serve people despite the challenges," Bii said.

The governor assessed the facility's maternity wards and drug stores.

He was accompanied by Health executive Abraham Serem, Finance chief officer Eliud Chemaget and Kipkenyo MCA  David Leting.

Bii announced plans to upgrade the facility's infrastructure to improve access to health services.

He urged staff to continue working hard and serve residents diligently.

“We have enough drugs but the most important resource for any hospital is staff. Without you people residents will not be treated," Bii said.

A few weeks ago, the county disbursed drugs worth more than Sh40 million to all county hospitals.

“We are also making progress in automating all operations and posting more staff to hospitals," he said.

Health is a key pillar in Bii’s "Nguzo Kumi" (ten point) development agenda.

Bii said he will fully support President William Ruto’s Universal Health Care plan that seeks to provide health services at a cheaper cost.

Leting urged the governor to expand Pioneer Health Centre owing to the huge population it serves.

“We want the facility fenced to end cases of theft” he said.

Serem said the Health department was allocated enough resources to support quality health provision in hospitals.

“We have a clear plan to ensure Uasin Gishu residents have access to quality and affordable health services," Serem said.

The governor and his team later visited several other health facilities in the town.
