Uasin Gishu Governor Dr Jonathan Bii has within the last two years completed construction or renovation of more than 30 hospitals in the county.
The upgrading of the health facilities will enable residents access quality health services near their homes in all wards in the county, he said.
Work on the completed projects in different wards is being implemented by the county department of roads, transport and public works in liaison with the department of health.
Roads executive Joseph Lagat said they have done quality work on the projects to ensure residents get value for money.
“This are transformational projects aimed at not only changing the well-being of residents but also delivering quality services to residents,” Lagat said.
The executive said the public works team has been working closely with the department of health in the supervision of the projects in the last two years.
Bii said he has given healthcare priority in his Nguzo Kumi (10-point) agenda for the county as per his election manifesto.
“Our intention is to ensure we modernise all our health facilities and also fully equip them so that our people do not travel far whenever they need treatment,” Bii said.
Completed projects include upgrading Chepterit dispensary in Barsombe (Kipsomba ward), Chepkemel dispensary (Ng'enyilel ward), construction of a laboratory at Kibulgeny dispensary in Kiplombe and renovation works at Matharu dispensary (Tarakwa ward).
The county has also completed fencing and renovation works at Ng'enyilel dispensary, Cheptiret dispensary, Segero Central dispensary, Tarakwa dispensary (Kipsomba ward), completion of a maternity block at Kapkoros dispensary (Kapsaos ward) and construction of a kitchen at Kimalel health centre.
Other completed projects are the renovation of Uasin Gishu County Hospital in Eldoret town, the construction of a drug store at Kapsoya Health Centre, fencing and painting works at Chepkigen Health Centre and a maternity block at Kipsangui dispensary(Soy ward) among others
Bii said several other projects are ongoing.
The county is currently implementing a Sh427 million MoU it signed with the Israel government to help boost health services in the county.
Under the MoU, drones will used to collect medical samples under a deal to be implemented by ElsMed Healthcare Solutions from Israel to boost services in the 138 health facilities in the region.
The money will be used to finance health-related projects for 10 years.
Bii termed the move as a major step towards achieving his plan to improve the healthcare system in the county.
The partnership is a result of a recent visit by the Israel Ambassador Michael Lotem to Uasin Gishu during which the envoy agreed to help finance several health projects in the region.
