Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged Kenyans to take pride in their culture and embrace its progressive aspects.

Speaking at Empuyiankat, Kaputiei North ward, Kajiado county during a prayer service organised by the Maasai Ilkiramat age group, Gachagua said cultural traditions were important and ought to be preserved.

“I fully support progressive culture and traditions among Kenyans and other Africans as they are important. We must be proud of our culture and traditions as they form an integral part of our communities,” he said.

The DP lauded the Maasai community for embracing their culture and integrating it with the Christian faith to shape the future of youthful generations.

He said that other Kenyans could benefit immensely from the rich Maa culture, which has been one of the salient anchors of our tourism sector.

“The Maa community is globally known for embracing their culture. Your culture, traditions, traditional regalia and how you take care of wildlife makes us proud as a nation,” Gachagua said.

The DP encouraged the age group to unite and help each other through life as this was the importance of coming together as age mates.

He told the age group to take care of themselves and their families as they are the future generation.

“You are the foundation of this community and Kenya at large. Work hard and avoid drug and substance abuse, even as the government works hard to eliminate illicit brews in the country,” Gachagua said.

The DP implored the Maa community to unite and speak in one voice, for  Kenya is made up of diverse communities that must first unite, leading to one indivisible nation.

Gachagua also said he fully supports President William Ruto’s decision to form the broad based government with members of the opposition, adding that they are focused on developing the country and serving all Kenyans.

The DP was accompanied by the Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho, Senator Samuel Seki, Nominated Senator Peris Tobiko, MPs Kakuta Maimai (Kajiado East), Sakimba Parashina (Kajiado South), Onesmus Ngogoyo (Kajiado North), Former Kajiado Governor and Chairperson of the Wildlife Research and Training Institute David Nkedienye, Former Kajiado Woman Rep Mary Seneta and area MCA Joshua Olowuasa among other leaders.
