Man, 75, dies after being assaulted in Bungoma village

A 75-year-old man died after he was assaulted by his neighbour using a walking stick in a fight in Kopsiro, Bungoma county.

Police said Hudson Cheboit was hit in the head with a walking stick and rushed to Bungoma County Referral Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.

The incident happened on Wednesday, police said.

The suspect was arrested pending arraignment while the body of Cheboit is lying at a local mortuary.

In Kimilili, Isaac Wanyonyi, a casual labourer was seriously assaulted by an employee of a hotel following a disagreement and succumbed to the injuries in hospital.

Police said the incident happened at a hotel in Kimilili town.

Wanyonyi was rushed to the Kimilili subcounty hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

The police visited the facility and found the victim had suffered burn injuries on his back.

The scene was processed and the body was taken for a postmortem and pending arrest of the suspect.

And a man was shot and wounded during a confrontation between two groups at a meeting that turned chaotic in Hola, Tana River county.

A group of Pokomos and Somalis living in Zubaki location held a peace meeting in Mahono sub-location, which later turned chaotic.

This area is contested by the two communities.

Members of the two communities disagreed over the agenda and the meeting turned violent, prompting two Kenya police reservists who were armed to fire in the air during the Tuesday evening commotion.

In the process one of those present was shot on both legs. He was rushed to ljara subcounty hospital where he was admitted in serious condition.

Police officers visited the scene and disarmed the two reservists and kept the weapons as exhibits.

Police said they recovered three spent cartridges at the scene.

A team is investigating the incident. There were also efforts to solve the dispute that led to the shooting.
