Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris on Saturday led hundreds of Kenyans in this year's Karen Hospital Heart to Heart Run in Nairobi.
The Karen Hospital Heart Run is held annually to raise funds for heart surgeries for children from underprivileged backgrounds.
Gachagua said he was glad to have joined runners, including children to participate in the Heart to Heart Run in Nairobi.
"The Karen Hospital Heart to Heart Run has, for the last 30 years, become a symbol of compassion, resilience, and hope for children and families affected by congenital and rheumatic heart diseases," he said.
The run marked the 3oth Anniversary of the run started in 1993 by the Heart to Heart Foundation.
The event has since restored hope to the over 400 beneficiaries and their families through the noble cause of raising funds for heart diseases management and open heart surgeries to children.
While flagging off the event, Gachagua appreciated the noble initiative by The Karen Hospital that goes along way in supporting the government agenda in offering quality healthcare.
The DP challenged other hospitals and medical stakeholders to emulate the initiative, which in the long run, will complement government efforts in providing quality healthcare to Kenyans.
Tens of children also participated in the run in solidarity with their colleagues struggling with heart problems with a view of raising funds for their management and treatment.
Funds raised from the event are utilised in the management and heart diseases, including open-heart surgeries in children.
Lang'ata MP Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o and his Dagoretti North counterpart Beatrice Elachi also participated in the heart run.
