Leaders from Magarini subcounty have threatened to incite locals to kills wild animals that have been terrorising them for the past two months.

They accuse KWS of failing to take action, even after a group of lions attacked and killed a 10-year-old girl in August.

More on this:

The girl was attacked at her home and the lions dragged her body into the forest. Her remains were recovered five hours later.

MP Harry Kombe and three MCAs said on Wednesday that they will not allow another person to be killed as a result of KWS's laxity.

They were speaking at a security meeting chaired by Kilifi county commissioner Joseph Keter and deputy commissioner Simon Lokoloi at Maburui.

The latest reports from the area indicate that over 100 goats and cattle have been killed by lions and hyenas, less than three weeks after the girl was killed.

Adu MCA Stanley Kenga said children no longer go to school for fear of being attacked.

The leaders have given the Kenya Wildlife Service seven days to eliminate or capture the lions and return them to the park.

They expressed fears that prolonged human-wildlife conflict may lead to famine.

But Keter asked locals not to take laws into their hands.

He directed KWS rangers to pitch camp in the affected areas until the rogue lions are captured.
