President Uhuru Kenyatta has signed into law the County Allocation of Revenue Bill, 2019 and Copyright (Amendment) Bill, 2019.

The 2019 Revenue Act will provide for the equitable allocation of revenue raised nationally among the county governments for the 2019/20 financial year.

The Act will also facilitate the transfer of the allocated funds from the Consolidated Fund to respective County Revenue Funds.

At the brief signing ceremony witnessed by Deputy President Dr William Ruto, the President also appended his signature on the Copyright (Amendment) Bill, 2019.

The Copyright (Amendment) Act 2019 is aimed at addressing growing concerns about royalty rights in the country especially the collection and disbursement of fees and dues to copyright holders.

The signing of the County Allocation Bill comes hours after the Council of Governors dismissed reports that they had received Sh50 billion from the treasury.

Chairman Wycliffe Oparanya hit back at the acting Treasury CS Ukur Yatani for claiming that Uhuru had signed the bill on Monday and as a result the treasury had already released the amount.

Oparanya in a press statement said the money can only be disbursed to county governments once the County Revenue Allocation Act has been approved.

He also said the money can only be disbursed after being gazetted and approved by the office of the Controller of Budget.
