A 62-year-old former convict has been sentenced to 35 years behind bars for robbery with violence.

Joyce Wairimu Kariuki, who had been at Shimo La Tewa GK Prison had appeared before Loitoktok Law Courts on April 23, 2019 charged with robbery with violence.

She allegedly masterminded carjacking in Nakuru, Mombasa and Nairobi.

 

According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation, Wairimu resumed her thievery despite having been released from prison after completing a 15-year jail term.

"Following numerous reports of stolen motor vehicles especially lorries in Nakuru, Nairobi and Mombasa between 2018 and 2019, DCI detectives narrowed down on the suspect around whom the thefts revolved," the DCI said.

In October, 2019, a Lamu Islamic religious teacher was also sentenced life imprisonment for robbery with violence.

The 62-year-old father of eight, Abdulrahman Mohamed Bwanaheri was convicted of attacking, injuring and robbing Mwanaidha Bakuri Saburi of her handbag and valuables worth Sh125,000 on March 12, 2018, near Anisa mosque.

The valuables included Sh60,000.
