Two robbery-with-violence suspects have been detained for five days by a Makadara court to allow the police to conclude investigations.

Ezekiel Mutuku and Augustine Kioko are accused of robbing Dishon Njiru of Sh950,000. They appeared before chief magistrate Anjelo Githinji on Thursday.

Investigating officer Anthony Muguna, in an affidavit, told court the two were arrested on August 31 and booked at the Industrial Area police station.

Muguna says Njiru was accosted on May 28 by three gun-toting men who ordered him to surrender the money he had withdrawn from Equity Bank, Mombasa Road.

The three men had a pistol, kidnapped Njiru and bundled him into a vehicle just after he had crossed Mombasa Road, a few metres from Panari Hotel, he says.

Njiru was later assaulted and his nose bridge broken. He was then dumped in the Karagita area along the Nairobi-Kangundo Road.

Njiru was later taken to Komarock Modern Healthcare where he was treated and discharged.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are members of a huge gang and residents of Nairobi and other major towns have fallen prey and lost huge amounts of money to them.

The case will be mentioned next week.
