EACC to examine financial operations at MMUST to prevent graft

It's aimed at identifying and sealing loopholes that may allow corruption.

EACC has opened a probe at the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology on the operations and financial management at the institution.

The anti-graft agency on Thursday said the investigation will involve an audit of the university's systems, policies, procedures and practices.

"This is part of the Commission's initiatives to prevent corruption in public institutions through strengthening of internal controls," the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission said. 

The exercise was launched by EACC Commissioner Col. (Rtd) Alfred Mshimba accompanied by the University Council Chairperson and Vice Chancellor.

The Commission examines the systems, policies, procedures and practices of public institutions to identify loopholes that may allow corruption with a view to advising on reform measures.

"I wish to appeal to the University to accord our team maximum cooperation and I assure you that the information provided during this assignment will be handled with utmost confidentiality and solely for the purpose of this exercise," Mshimba said.

The examination will be conducted by a team of five officers who Mshimba said is confident they have the competence and capability to undertake the assignment successfully.
