Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir will today face senators over high cost of electricity and fuel.
Chirchir will appear before the Senate Energy Committee to elaborate on the plans by the ministry to reduce the cost of electricity and fuel.
He will also take questions on the report of the Presidential Taskforce on Independent Power Producers chaired John Ngumi.
Chirchir will further share information on contracts signed between Kenya Power and Lighting Company and the Lake Turkana Wind Power Project.
Senators have indicated that they will also demand to know the shareholding and ownership of L Turkana Wind Power Project.
The cost of electricity has risen for the second month in a row on the back of high oil prices and a weak shilling.
Kenyans continue to suffer from the painful burden as inflation remains high. Kenya pays an average of Sh16 per kilowatt.
While the cost of electricity in Ethiopia is at $0.03 (Sh3.65)per kilowatt, Egypt $0.06(Sh7.30,South Africa $0.09 (Sh10.96) and in Uganda, manufacturers pay $0.10 (Sh12.18).
On November 10, President William Ruto said that he will lower the cost of production which will enable the Energy ministry to relook their Independent Power Producers.
"The cost of production must also be lowered significantly through lower energy and input costs and a more supportive tax regime,” Ruto said.
