The state has disclosed it will import 10 million bags of maize between February and April next year.

In a statement, Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi noted that the importation will not take place this year. This is as Kenyans and some politicians raised queries over the quick decision to import the produce yet some farmers have not exhausted the grains in their stores.

The imports would only follow after a review establishes there are deficits.

Linturi said this in a statement to Parliament following a question by Pokot South MP David Pkosing.

The MP said farmers can now be at ease following the clarity by the concerned ministry.
