Low voter turnout has been witnessed at Bungoma DEB Primary School for the by-election.

At 7:30 am, only two voters had turned up to cast their votes.

Speaking at Ranje Primary School after casting his vote, DAP-K Senator candidate Wafula Wamunyinyi decried voter bribery.

He called on the IEBC to be vigilant and take stern action against those who go against the election laws.

“On Monday we had a fruitful meeting with IEBC where we agreed nobody will be involved in election malpractice,” Wamunyinyi said.

At Musikoma Primary School polling station, Moi DEB in Bungoma town, voters also failed to turn up.

Mwambu Mabonga of UDA said he has campaigned enough and he is optimistic about winning.

“I know this by-election has come at a time when people are working. I want to encourage those who are within to turn up and elect their senator,” he said.

Mwambu said he believes in IEBC.

He called on his opponents to maintain peace.

“Let us vote and leave IEBC officials to do their work. There is no need to bribe voters to elect you when they know that you aren’t equal to the task,” Mwambu said.

The National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula has already cast his vote at Namakhele Primary School in Kabuchai.

Wetang’ula called on Bungoma voters to cast their votes wisely.

On Monday, Bungoma county returning officer Grace Rono warned candidates against taking part in voter bribery.
