The government has committed to ensuring that credibility and authenticity of qualifications and certificates from learning institutions.

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu says the government has developed a system for articulation, classification, registration, accreditation and quality assurance of national qualifications.

Machogu spoke on Friday during the release of the 2022 KCSE exam at the Kenya National Examinations Council office in Nairobi.

He directed the Kenya National Qualifications Authority to ensure that the National Qualifications Framework is fully implemented.

"This will enhance the quality, relevance and authenticity of qualifications, not just locally but globally. This will also promote portability of our qualifications and mobility of labour," Machogu said.

The CS further said all candidates who sat the 2022 KCSE exam have ready avenues to progress to other levels of education as the government seeks to leave no learner behind in career development.

"All these candidates have a destiny and the government is determined to clear the path for them," he said.

Some 443,644 male and 437,772 female candidates sat last year's exam, representing 50.33 per cent and 49.67 per cent of the total candidature respectively.

The KNQA is mandated by the Kenya National Qualifications Framework Act to coordinate and supervise development of policies on national qualifications.

Also, to provide for the recognition of attainment or competencies including skills, knowledge, attitudes and values.

Already, the government has developed a policy on recognition of prior learning framework, which recognises skills acquired through other means other than formal education.

It aims to provide every Kenyan with an opportunity to participate in economic development activities and addresses inequity in tendering for contracts by jua kali artisans and craftsmen who have the requisite skills but lack certificates.
