EALA MP Hassan Omar has been appointed the UDA Vice Chairperson.

UDA announced the changes on Monday, which saw the former Mombasa Senator replace Kipruto Kirwa.

Speaking during the transition, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wa expressed confidence that the new office bearers will deliver as expected.

Other changes include former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malalataking over as the UDA secretary general, replacing nominated Senator Veronica Maina.

Embu Governor Celily Mbarire was named the new party chairperson after Johnson Muthama was nominated to be a member of the PSC.

Further UDA appointed Kitutu Chache North MP Japheth Nyakundi as the treasurer, replacing Omingo Magara.

Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka replaced Karisa Nzai as the Party Organising Secretary.

"We are alive to the fact that the office requires a full-time SG. Malala will devote all his time and energy to his job," Ichung'wa said.

The new leadership will serve on an interim basis ahead of national elections later this year.

Ichung'wa further lauded the outgoing officials for having steered the party to greater heights.

"We are grateful to Maina for her service. This indeed is the youngest party, which is also the most vibrant," he said.

He assured that the place of women in the party has not diminished with the departure of Maina as SG.

"We have Cecil Mbarire as the chair of the party to cement the place of women in UDA. We also have Malala to inject youthfulness into the party," he added.

In her address, outgoing SG Maina acknowledged her role in the party showing that women can manage powerful leadership positions.

"I had the honour of birthing a party that formed government. It is a show of confidence in women in leadership positions," she said.

Malala noted that he was aware of the fact that an enormous challenge awaited him in taking over the party leadership.

"We have started the journey to make UDA the greatest party since independence," he said.
