The Azimio One Kenya aAlliance Coalition has unveiled a portal where Kenyans can post photos, videos or audios of occurrences during demonstrations in real-time.
In a statement through his Twitter on Sunday, Ugunja MP who is also the National Assembly Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi said the portal was set up in what he termed as the wake of threats to media freedom.
“In the face of real threat to the free media, we wish to assure Kenyans that we have put in place a secure web platform where members of the public are invited to post occurrences in form of photos, videos and audios during our weekly peaceful demonstrations,” he said.
“This material will be available for the world to see. This will enable us to keep the public and all stakeholders informed of progress and real-time occurrences across the country.”
According to Wandayi, anybody with a phone or a camera, can access and post anonymously or view the material remotely.
He said the portal whose link he gave as http://mddkenya.com will also ensure people who intend to cause mayhem during the protests are captured through several IP-enabled spy cameras which will then transmit to cloud servers in real-time.
This comes after the High Court suspended the Communications Authority of Kenya's decision to censure six TV stations for covering Monday’s Azimio demos.
This is after a lobby moved to court seeking to stop the Communication Authority from enforcing its decision to censure six TV stations for covering Monday Azimio demos.
Justice J Chigiti granted leave to Katiba Institute to file the judicial review seeking to stop the censure of the TV stations.
The case will be mentioned on May 10 for further directions.
In a statement on Wednesday, CA Director General Ezra Chiloba said the coverage depicted scenes that could cause panic or incitement to the public, and threaten peace and cohesion in the country.
