Interior CS Kithure Kindiki now says that Kenyans must step up and protect their country.

According to the CS, the country must be protected from getting into an irreversible state of disorder.

"We must protect our Country from sliding into irretrievable anarchy," Kindiki said.

His remarks come after the Opposition and police engaged in running battles as business came to a standstill in Nairobi among other parts of the country.

The CS remained silent throughout the day (Monday) as chaos were experienced in the city.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga and his allies have been holding demonstrations Mondays and Thursdays, calling on the government to lower the cost of living.

They also call for electoral reforms and want President William Ruto to resign and let them take charge of the country.

Ruto and allies have been accusing Raila of wanting to take the country to anarchy, claims he has vehemently denied.

The Opposition leader insists that all he is asking for is what rightfully belongs to Kenyans.

"No, Mr Ruto, we don't want to bring anarchy in our country, we are fighting for our rights and we have a right to tell Kenyans the truth," he said.

"Every time you speak against us in churches, today we have answered you back."

Monday's protests were the second since Raila announced weekly demos.

The most affected parts are Nairobi and Kisumu.

There have also been reports of demos in Migori and Trans Nzoia.
