President William Ruto could deflate Azimio leader Odinga's anti-government crusade after yielding to some of his key demands.

A day after declaring that the cost of Unga would fall, the prices of the country's stable meal plummeted to an all-time low of Sh159 per 2kg pack.

This is the first time that the price of cooking flour crossed below the Sh170 mark for a 2kg pack, heaving a sigh of relief for poor households.

The cost of unga was the key plank of Raila's resistance against the government and one of the conditions for his talks with Ruto.

Raila had asked the government to ensure the cost of unga is not more than Sh100 per a 2kg pack, stirring the public with his signature sufuria during rallies.

Ruto's administration has said more maize imports in the coming days will take the prices of unga further down.

The President, in what appeared to be coordinated actions, yielded to Raila's demands and allowed the parliamentary talks to include experts.

He has also expanded the talks to include views from members of the public and organised groups on the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

In a draft motion by National Assembly majority leader Kimani Ichung'wah, Ruto gave the green light for the establishment of a joint house committee for dialogue.

The Special Select Committee will have technical experts co-opted by either team as well as Parliament itself in a bid to enrich its deliberations.

Raila had indicated that he was keen on having experts seconded to the selection panel to offer technical knowledge on key areas that will be discussed.

''The joint select committee and each coalition may engage experts, professionals and such other technical resource persons as they may deem necessary,'' the motion reads in part.

Ruto has also agreed that the select committee shall be co-chaired by both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza during the panel's meetings.

Raila had demanded that the committee should be co-chaired so as to place the two parties as equals in the negotiation process.

However, Ruto stayed put to have the talks held within the parliamentary framework with the House providing official Hansard records.

''The proceedings of the Joint Committee shall be governed by the Standing Orders,'' the motion reads.

''The Clerks of both Houses of Parliament shall provide secretarial services in accordance with the Standing Orders.''
