Kenya Airports Authority has issued a clarification regarding yesterday’s plane incident that resulted in the suspension of flights.

Through their Twitter account on Tuesday, they said the aircraft experienced an engine failure and not a bird strike.

“Clarification: yesterday’s incident at JKIA was not caused by a bird strike, but by the aircraft’s engine failure and aborted take-off,” KAA noted.

It had been assumed that the airline suffered a bird strike which resulted in the closure of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport runway.

Scheduled flights were temporarily suspended in and out of JKIA.

"Our top priority is the safety of all passengers and we are working closely with the relevant authorities to resolve this situation as quickly and safely as possible," KAA said on Monday.

The engine of the cargo plane that had stalled at the JKIA runway caught fire, causing takeoff wheels to burst.

11 out of 16 takeoff wheels of the Singapore Airlines burst following a failed takeoff after one of the engines failed.

There were numerous flight delays.

However, flight operations resumed a few hours after the stalled plane was removed from the runaway.
