CS Kuria declares establishment of three new EPZs

They are in Kirinyaga, Kilifi and Kwale counties.

Trade CS Moses Kuria has declared three new Export Processing Zones in Kirinyaga, Kilifi and Kwale counties.

A gazette notice dated May 5 listed them as Kiine/Thigirichi /3747 in Kirinyaga which measures at approximately 75 acres. 

The second EPZ is within the northern part of Mtwapa Creek measuring approximately 1.159 hectares in Kilifi County.

"All that parcel of land known as Title Number C.R. 77142, being L.R. No. MN/III/12493 (originally MN/III/8819), measuring approximately 1.159 hectares or thereabout, situated within north of Mtwapa Creek in Kilifi County," the notice reads.

"This gazette notice consequently revokes Legal Notice No. 164 of 2016,"  it adds.

CS Kuria also gazetted a land measuring 127,000 square feet within Mariakani in Kwale. 

In April 17, he declared two zones in Uasin Gishu and Busia counties. 

In April 21, Kuria launched 6,000 EPZ internships in apparel and pharmaceuticals.

He said the internships will be available through TVETs and polytechnics nationwide.

The declaration of EPZs is a major development for Kenya's trade and investment sector.

The move aims at attracting  foreign investment, creation of employment opportunities and increasing the country's exports.

President William Ruto has been inviting foreign investors into the country, noting that Kenya is the gateway to Africa.
