Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned the police against getting involved in politics.
The DP on Monday emphasised that the Kenya Kwanza government will not use police to fight political battles.
"We will be stupid to rely on you to do our politics. Nyinyi mnafikiria mkiwa na kirauni mnaweza ambia mtu mahali pa kuweka kura? (Do you think with your crown you can dictate to people how to vote?) President Ruto and I are not interested in you helping us in our politics. You will spoil for us," Gachagua said.
He spoke on Monday during the 3rd regional stakeholders engagement on the fight against illicit alcohol, drugs and other poisonous substances at Kirubia Stadium, Tharaka Nithi County.
The Eastern Region conference, led by the DP, brought together Cabinet secretaries, political, security, religious and community leaders from the eight counties of Eastern Region.
Gachagua called on the police to expose all leaders protecting drug lords behind illicit brews and drug abuse.
"Do your part as security officers and on our side, the government will do its work," Gachagua added.
The DP vowed to fight the sale of illicit brews, drug and substance abuse in the Upper Eastern region.
He said the government will remain focused on addressing the menace which mostly affects the youth.
President William Ruto has repeatedly asked the police to remain apolitical while discharging their duties.
He said earlier that the police must serve all Kenyans fairly, irrespective of their political or ethnic affiliation.
"We want the police to be professional, independent and accountable while protecting Kenyans," Ruto said.
