Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has asked President William Ruto to sack members of his Cabinet who misadvised him to promise on Labour Day that maize flour prices had come down drastically.

Kalonzo said a 2kg packet of maize flour was still retailing at around Sh240 in most parts of the country even though President William Ruto on May 1 announced that the commodity’s price had reduced to Sh158.

"I’m asking from here in Miumbuni, what's the price of a packet of maize flour? It's Sh240.  If I remember well, during Labour Day in the month of May, the current President said maize flour prices had gone down to Sh158," Kalonzo said.

He spoke at the official opening of a dormitory at Miumbuni Secondary School in Kathiani, Machakos County on Tuesday.

"Ruto should sack all those CSs for making him speak lies. Now instead of Sh158, it's going for Sh240 shillings" Kalonzo said.

The Wiper leader said as Azimio leadership, they will continue pushing for reforms in the country.

"Sio maandamano, nchi yetu ni haki ifanyike Kenya hii. For me, I have demonstrated enough; in 2013, 2017 and 2022. na mimi siyo kijana sana kwa sababu tunapimana akili (It's not protesting, our country must witness justice. I have demonstrated in 2013, 2017 and 2022, I'm no longer young, it's now an intellectual contest),” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo cited the high cost of living in the country as something the opposition will not allow to continue.

"We said this can’t be allowed to continue and that’s when demos were born. We demonstrated. Even there was a time we were demonstrating during the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto’s leadership in 2013.

"We were teargassed. You remember we were in Cord then with Azimio leader Raila Odinga and Moses Wetang'ula. We were teargassed and those who had ‘stolen our votes’ were removed from IEBC.

"I Kalonzo said I had broken the chains come what may. Tukaanza maandamano. First round, they said Nairobi city would be a no-go-zone but we held demonstrations in the city,” he added.

The Wiper leader said as the Kamba nation, they were ready to liberate the country.

"Nilisema 2022 ingawa sikuwa kwa ballot, tutazunguka Kenya hi tuokoe Kenya. Nafurahia ya kwamba waKenya wengi wameona vile tumejitolea. Kila wakati tunajitolea; 2013, 2017 na 2022. Kumbukeni 2007 niling’ang’ana na hawa wanaume. Nilisema hapa Machakos Kibaki akiwa upande huu na Raila upande mwingine, nikapita katikati.

"But, we have been doing all that in the interest of this nation. Mko tayari?” Kalonzo asked the crowd.

He said if there was something he had learnt from Ruto, it’s that he started his campaigns earlier in 2013 immediately Jubilee formed government.

"He started campaigns as if elections were on the following day and he was a Deputy President. Huyu William Ruto amenifunza,” Kalonzo said.

He urged Wiper leaders across the country and especially from the Ukambani region to unite and work as a team from MCAs to governors for them to have synergy as they gear up for 2027 polls.

Kalonzo urged the leaders to open Wiper offices in all wards in the region

"We want grassroots mobilisation,” said.
