At least four Kenya Defence Forces soldiers were on Tuesday morning killed after a vehicle they were traveling in rolled on the Marsabit-Isiolo highway.

Six others escaped with injuries following the accident that happened when the Land Cruiser overturned in the Karare area, police and witnesses said.

The injured were rushed to hospital in serious condition. According to police and witnesses, the vehicle’s driver lost control and rolled off the road killing three soldiers on the spot.

The fourth victim died at the Marsabit hospital where he was rushed together with six others.

Three of those in hospital were in critical condition and plans were underway to transfer them to Nairobi, officials said.

Police said they are investigating the accident.

Cases of fatal accidents have been on the rise in the country. Between January 1, and May 18, a total of 1,679 people lost their lives in road accidents according to National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

According to NTSA, people who were seriously injured during that period were 3,620 and 2,690 were slightly injured.
