Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen on Saturday visited Londiani, where a tragic accident occurred killing 55 people.
The CS arrived at the scene at around 9.30 am on Saturday and was briefed on the incident.
He is expected to give a statement on the progress of the retrieval of bodies and the number of fatalities.
The accident occurred after a truck lost control, running over pedestrians, business people and matatus which were parked by the roadside, witnesses and police said.
It was heading to Kericho before it lost control and veered off the road, ramming into tens of hawkers who were busy along the Nakuru-Kericho highway.
Witnesses said the driver of the truck was trying to avoid hitting a bus that was parked on the road after developing a mechanical hitch before losing control.
President William Ruto has led Kenyans in mourning the death of 45 people in a tragic road accident in Londiani, along the Nakuru-Kericho highway.
The President said it was worrying that some of those who had died in the accident are promising young people.
Ruto called on motorists to drive carefully during this rainy season as he wished to those who sustained injuries quick recoveries.
