Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen on Saturday visited Londiani, where a tragic accident occurred killing 55 people.

The CS arrived at the scene at around 9.30 am on Saturday and was briefed on the incident.

He is expected to give a statement on the progress of the retrieval of bodies and the number of fatalities.

The accident occurred after a truck lost control, running over pedestrians, business people and matatus which were parked by the roadside, witnesses and police said.

It was heading to Kericho before it lost control and veered off the road, ramming into tens of hawkers who were busy along the Nakuru-Kericho highway.

Witnesses said the driver of the truck was trying to avoid hitting a bus that was parked on the road after developing a mechanical hitch before losing control.
