Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang'ula has said schools in Western Kenya are in bad condition.

Wetang'ula said the schools are struggling to implement the Competency-Based Curriculum because of their situation.

This is after Safaricom Foundation for Infrastructural Development offered Sh35 million to sponsor two schools in Bungoma.

"Schools are now struggling to set up more classes to be able to accommodate pupils under the new CBC education system. It is good that the Foundation is part of this development," he said.

"There are efforts by the government to improve the infrastructure of schools to be able to accommodate pupils under the new education system."

Naitiri Primary School is set to get Sh25 million while Naitiri RC Primary will receive another grant of Sh10 million for the institution's facelift.

Wetang'ula challenged parents to provide their children with education of the utmost quality and standard.

"It is through the cultivation of knowledge and intellectual growth that we shall empower our offspring to transcend boundaries and unlock their fullest potential," he added.

Area MP John Chikati said the Foundation's move will go a long way in supplementing his efforts through NG-CDF to improve the status of schools in the Constituency.
