Journalist and former Chief of Staff to Standard Group CEO Laban-Cliff Onserio has for the first time opened up on an explosive ordeal that had him arrested.

Onserio was arrested by the Anti-Terror Police Unit in December last year after he was found with what was believed to be explosive at a church.

According to him, however, the device found in his possession was not an explosive.

He said it was given to him as a souvenir and even experts confirmed that it could not cause any harm.

"It was not a grenade. It was a device. It was given to me as a souvenir. It was taken through some experts and they had to look at it as well and it was not anything that was going to be lethal to cause death," he said in an interview with Sema Box.

Onserio narrated that it all started with a confrontation with his friends after they had attended a concert at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.

He added that the issue has since been settled.

"I went into Sol Fest and had a fantastic evening and here I was with my wife and several other friends... After the event, there was a confrontation that happened," Onserio added.

"The confrontation came in after sitting down with friends. It was just a disagreement that went out of hand... I'm not a terrorist guys."

Following the arrest, he was presented at the Kahawa law court and detained for 12 days before he was released on Bail.

In February 2023, the then Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji dropped the terror charges against Onserio.

The charges were dropped after the court established that there was no sufficient evidence against him.
