Three Expressway Toll stations to remain closed

Protestors vandalised the road as they demonstrated over high cost of living.

The Moja Expressway Company has announced that three toll stations will remain closed after vandalism by protestors.

In a statement on Thursday, the company said the opening of the Toll stations will be communicated later.

The stations include; Mlolongo, Syokimau and the SGR Toll stations.

"Services on a section of the Nairobi Expressway are temporarily halted at Mlolongo, Syokimau and SGR Toll stations due to the demonstrations that occurred on Wednesday, 12th July 2023," the company said.

It also said security will be enhanced before operations resume on the road.

Meanwhile, motorists using the Nairobi Expressway towards Mlolongo to exit at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Toll station.

"For your safety, we urge all motorists plying the Westlands-Mlolongo route to exit from JKIA and Mlolongo-Westlands bound motorists to safely join the Nairobi Expressway from JKIA Toll station."

Protesters on Wednesday pulled down the Expressway barrier near Mlolongo.

They were seen pulling the barrier by force to remove it.

As some of them were pulling the barrier, others were jumping and shouting, while others destroyed the flower containers lining the Expressway walls. 

Transport was also briefly paralysed on the Mombasa Highway as protesters barricaded the road.
