United Democratic Alliance (UDA) secretary general Cleophas Malala has urged the Opposition to rethink and retreat from holding maandamano.

Speaking on Wednesday, Malala said the destruction that Kenyans have witnessed from the Raila Odinga - led anti-government protests are warring.

He noted that tourists who are meant to bring in revenue are avoiding coming to Kenya because of the violence witnessed following the protests.

" I want to implore upon the Azimio people to retreat and think because we are losing tourists, tourists who are supposed to come and witness the wildebeest migration in Narok," Malala said during the JKL show at Citizen Tv.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga last week called for the protests to mount pressure on the Kenya Kwanza government over what he termed as its deliberate adoption of policies that are aimed at punishing Kenyans.

As a result, at least seven people were killed in Wednesday’s protests in Kenya, as demonstrators took to the streets to protest the high cost of living.

Police confirmed three deaths in Mlolongo, two in Kitengela, and one each in Emali and Sondu–all shot dead in day-long confrontations with police.

Dozens of people including police officers were also injured in the protests called by the Opposition.

The epicentre of the protests was in the capital Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Kisumu, Kisii and Nyamira counties.

Six other people were shot dead in Kisumu, Kisii and Migori last week, sparking outrage from the Kenya National Commission of Human Rights which warned police against excessive use of force on protesters.

The ODM leader on Wednesday, later called off a rally he had planned to hold at the Kamukunji Grounds citing intelligence reports that police planned to use live ammunition on protesters.

In addition, the former Kakamega Senator added that his party leader, President William Ruto remains committed to having structured talks with the Opposition.

However, he made it clear that the talks are not on a coalition government with the Azimio side.

"I want to beseech my brother( Narok Senator Ledama Olekina, go tell your leader that my leader is committed to having a structured talk. Nusu mkate is not in our constitution," Malala added.
