A family member has claimed that Kilifi Chief Officer in charge of Fisheries and Blue Economy Rahab Karisa was killed after a quarrel over the food budget.

The family member who sought anonymity said Karisa questioned the house help on why she spent a lot of money outside the agreed budget.

"The house help was not happy and she quarrelled with her leading to the stabbing," said the source.

Rahab had jetted back to the country from Italy on Wednesday when the tragedy happened.

Police have said they are investigating the incident.

They have also dismissed reports that the house help suspected to have killed Karisa had died by suicide.

Kilifi County police boss Fatuma Hadi said the body of a woman found dangling in a tree in Takauku is not that of the suspect.

Hadi said the body found dangling on a tree had been identified.

"The body discovered this morning in Takaungu is of a different person... Reports circulating on social media are untrue," she said.

The county boss confirmed that police officers have gathered crucial leads that may lead to the arrest of the suspect.

Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung'aro eulogized Rahab as an industrious and hardworking officer.

He called on the police to investigate the matter expeditiously and bring the culprit to book.
