President William Ruto is being insensitive to the people who lost their lives and blaming the opposition for the deaths, Migori Senator Eddy Oketch said.

Speaking on Citizen TV on Monday, Oketch said it is very disappointing to see the President maintain a casual manner on alleged cases of police brutality.

"Someone who would want to be respected as president of this country talking like that on a public forum and on TV because he is being very insensitive to the people who have lost their lives,” Oketch said.

“That public apology should actually come from the president, because of the loss of lives that we have seen in this country, the brute force that we have seen, in fact to some extent profiling a community. We have seen it because of people who hold autonomy and monopoly of the police force."

Going further, the senator bashed the Head of State for failing to sympathise with families who lost their loved ones during demos.

“You have seen the president go around the country, not at any single time has he ever recognised the pain of mothers who are crying for their sons," Okethc said.

Last week,  Ruto told the Azimio leaders they owed Kenyans an apology over recent protests that led to deaths and injuries.

"It is dishonest for the opposition to pretend to be concerned about the well-being of the people yet they led demonstrations that led to loss of lives and destruction of property. They should be ashamed of themselves," he said.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga said that at least 50 people have been killed since March when the opposition coalition announced the resumption of weekly mass protests against the government.

Interior PS Raymond Omollo in a statement said that one police officer was killed and 305 law enforcement officers seriously injured.

However, President Ruto has maintained that Kenya's security is not negotiable.
