Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said the Kenya Kwanza government won the August 9, polls because of its commitment to Church.

Gachagua said despite facing opposition ahead of the August polls, they kept supporting the church even as they implored Kenyans to vote for them.

He added that Kenya Kwanza is committed to supporting the church as it is the foundation of their blessings.

"President William Ruto and I are Christians and we will continue supporting and building the church," he said.

The church has been key in calling for peace and sobriety when handling issues of national importance.

The call by Gachagua comes days after clergies from various churches called on the need for leaders to unite for the betterment of the country.

The group in a press address asked President Ruto and the opposition leader Raila Odinga to tone down their hardline positions over planned talks.

They have urged the bargaining teams in bi-partisan talks to deliberate with sobriety to save further agony.

Former national presiding Bishop Mophat Kilioba said the country sorely yearns for peace and not violence.

"As a country, we vouch for the peaceful coexistence of Kenyans, not a country where terror and anarchy reign because of protests," said Kilioba.
