President William Ruto on Tuesday led Kenyans in celebrating Faith Kipyegon after winning gold in the Third World Women's 1500m title in Budapest.

The double Olympic champion, kicked at the bell for the final lap to outstrip a loaded field to win in 3min 54.87sec.

"Congratulations Faith Kipyegon for winning our first gold after defending the 1500m title for a 3rd time in a row in Budapest World Championship," Ruto said.

He described Kipyegon as peerless, a legend and a once in a generation talent.

Ethiopian Diribe Welteji took silver in 3:55.69, while Netherlands' Sifan Hassan claimed bronze (3:56.00).

He also recognized Abraham Kibiwot for bagging Bronze in 3,000m Steeplechase.

First Lady Rachel Ruto also said that Kenya was proud of Kipyegon.

"Faith Kipyegon does it again! Congratulations on winning the gold medal in the women's 1500m race at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest! Kenya is proud of you Faith!" she said.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said Kipyegon was a gem that Kenya is lucky to have.

"Triple 1500m World Champion! Faith Kipyegon's star continues to shine brightest! The nation's golden hero brings home Kenya's first Gold in the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. May your star continue to shine, Faith!" he said.
