Ruto gives counties Sh7.2 billion to finance climate actions

The money will prioritize the agriculture sector, and water and natural resources management.

President William Ruto has issued Sh7.2 billion to counties for county climate change investment grants.

He issued the money on Monday during the Africa climate summit at KICC.

Ruto said the money together with Sh3 billion of county own-resource allocations, will finance local climate action.

"Africa must channel adequate resources through investment and implement appropriate technologies in order to unleash the full potential of its clean and green natural resource," he said.

President Ruto said the money will prioritize the agriculture sector, and water and natural resources management in every county.

"That is how we can establish 100 per cent renewable energy transition to drive green industrialisation in the continent," he said.

The Africa climate summit scheduled for September 4 to 6 kicked off on Monday.

President William Ruto officially opened the summit as he welcomed all delegates and dignitaries to the summit.

Environment, Climate Change and Forestry CS Soipan Tuya said the fight against climate change needs joint hands.

Tuya said the climate crisis affects all.

"We need combined efforts in dealing with climate crisis. If we don't find solutions it will crush us all together," Tuya said
