Wetang'ula, Kingi to preside over climate change parliamentary dialogue

The Parliament will on Wednesday hold the Africa Climate Change Parliamentary Dialogue at the National Assembly Chambers.

The session will be presided over by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi.

Wetang'ula said that parliamentarians who are attending the African Climate Summit at KICC have been invited to the Parliamentary Dialogue.

He said that parliaments are key to forging consensus on the modalities of unlocking Africa's vast potential to positively impact the climate agenda.

He added that parliaments have the potential to rally the world to tap the numerous opportunities that the continent presents towards global net-zero ambition.

Wetang'ula said that the inaugural Africa Climate Change Summit has provided an opportunity to highlight and forge consensus on modalities for unlocking Africa's vast potential to positively impact the climate change agenda.

He was part of the leaders who attended the heads of state session of the Africa Climate Change Summit at Kenyatta International Convention Centre.

The summit will run until September 6, 2023, with a continuation of the Climate Summit week.

President William Ruto is hosting the summit in his capacity as the coordinator of all African heads of state on climate change within the AU.

Among key issues that are being discussed at the forum are how to tackle the increased exposure of emitters, investing in nature and biodiversity, solutions to climate change, and climate change financing for Africa.
