Azimio One Kenya spokesperson Fredrick Okang'o has claimed that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is afraid of the bipartisan talks.

Speaking on Monday, Okang'o claimed Gachagua is afraid the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) will birth constitutional offices that he is not comfortable with.

However, Gachagua said discussing the 2022 presidential election should be dropped.

"Let them proceed with the other agenda. Let them talk about reconstituting IEBC, embedding the Office of Prime Cabinet Secretary and others," he said.

Okang'o on his part claimed one such office is that of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, which was established under Executive Order No. 1 of 2023, giving Musalia Mudavadi some key roles in Ruto's government.

He claimed this is the biggest issue the DP has with the bipartisan team.

"When you listen to Rigathi Gachagua, he is a man under siege. NADCO was established as a resolution in Parliament and it is legal. Gachagua said he feared Raila Odinga. He doesn't fear Raila, he fears the talks because in the talks there is an issue with the establishment of state offices," he claimed.

"An issue that came from Kenya Kwanza and has been harmonised and specifically the issue of Prime Cabinet Secretary, that's what he fears. Should it go on and succeed as we hope it will, then gives that office legitimacy and functions and clear roles outlined in the constitution.  Gachagua seems to have a problem with that."

Okang'o spoke during an interview with Citizen TV.

His remarks come after Gachagua on Sunday asked that some issues set for talks in the NADCO should be dropped.

Gachangua has said the audit of the 2022 presidential election results should be dropped from the National Dialogue Committee agenda.

Speaking in Laare during a church service, the DP said the 2022 presidential election was audited by the Supreme Court, which declared William Ruto as the validly elected President.

Gachagua said there is no constitutional provision for auditing the election as the Supreme Court pronounced itself.
