September 13, 2023, marked President William Ruto's one year in office since he was sworn in at Kasarani Stadium.

Besides Ruto, the day is also significant to Mama Rachel Ruto who also marked one year as First Lady.

In a statement on Tuesday, she said despite the year being a tough one, God has walked with the government.

"The last year has been challenging, but God has watched over us. We are most grateful to God for what He has done; it is indeed marvellous in our eyes," Rachel Ruto said.

She quoted a Bible verse that had a biblical meaning about Thanksgiving.

"As a people, we choose to be counted with the one ‘leper’ that came back to Jesus to say thank you. (Luke 17:15) We are grateful to God!"  Rachel Ruto noted.

The First Lady also had a precise message to the elected leaders.

She called on them not to forget the sole reason as to why they were in office.

"To all the elected leaders, let us go back to the grassroots and serve the people of Kenya," Rachel Ruto said.

On Tuesday evening, she hosted a Thanksgiving dinner at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.

The dinner was attended by the Kenya Kwanza leaders and guests.
