Ruto holds talks with Portugal President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa

President William Ruto on Wednesday held talks with Portugal's President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States.

Ruto said Kenya will deepen bilateral relations with Portugal to unlock opportunities in areas of mutual interest.

He added that Portugal's technical support will boost Kenya's textile industry, machinery and appliances, agro-processing, and value-addition capabilities, creating wealth for the people.

World leaders have gathered for the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The high-level talks are scheduled for September 19 to 23 and September 26 at the UN Headquarters in New York.

It provides the leaders and heads of state the opportunity to lay out their priorities for the coming year, urge cooperation on pressing issues, and call out their adversaries.

The general debate will be under the theme 'Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all.'
