A 22-year-old woman who allegedly stabbed her neighbour to death with a kitchen knife after being asked if she was eying her husband has been charged with manslaughter.

Elizabeth Akinyi Otieno appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi where she denied killing Maureen Apondi Nyarindi on August 27, 2023, in Kibra.

Police said that on the fateful day, Akinyi was in her house preparing supper when her neighbour Maureen suddenly stormed the house and questioned if she was in a relationship with her husband.

A quarrel ensued and in the process, she allegedly stabbed the deceased twice in the stomach.

Neighbours heard the commotion and went to the scene only to find the deceased in a pool of blood.

A motorbike was called to take the deceased to Mbagathi Hospital where she died while undergoing treatment.

The husband of the deceased would later tell police that he was out watching football when he got a report that his wife had been stabbed.

She denied the charges and pleaded to be released saying she never killed her neighbour.

"It's true the deceased came to my house but I did not kill her," Akinyi said.

The court ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody pending a bail/bond determination.

The case will be mentioned on October 4.
