A senate committee has ordered the arrest of chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor for snubbing summons to appear before members.

The Senate Ad Hoc Committee investigating Shakahola deaths has severally invited Oduor to appear members but in vain.

“The Inspector General of Police is now being asked by the Senate to arrest Oduor and present him before us,” Committee chair Danson Mungatana said during a press briefing.

Mungatana said Oduor is expected to be presented before the committee on Tuesday next week at 10am.

“He is now not a free person. He should not take us for granted because so many people have died but he wants to play games,” added Mungatana, who is also the Tana River Senator.

The committee has further fined Oduor Sh500,000 for evading summonses by the Senate server.

“We are not asking Oduor to appear before us so that we ask him about his family or personal property. The police should present him to us on Tuesday during which he will be required to pay Sh500,000 from his pocket,” Mungatana said.

He noted that the committee has unsuccessfully summoned the Chief Government Pathologist three times.

"Cabinet Secretaries have appeared before us, Principal Secretaries, the DCI and other senior ranking officials than him (Oduor). What is it that is preventing him from appearing before this committee,” he posed.

Mungatana further said the key suspect in the Shakahola case, Paul Mackenzie, is also expected to appear before the committee on Tuesday next week.

He said efforts to serve Mackenzie- leader of the Good News International Church- in prison were futile.

The senator said they were not able to serve Mackenzie with summons because an officer at the prison prevented the process.

"The Senior Superintendent of Prisons denied the process server access to Mackenzie. We are directing the process server from Parliament to re-effect the summons,” Mungatana stated.

He warned that the Senior Superintendent of Prisons Shimo la Tewa Maximum Prison will be held personally liable if Mackenzie is not served.

As at the end of September, a total of 429 bodies had been exhumed from Shakahola forest.

Data indicated that 214 died from starvation, 39 from asphyxia, 14 from head injury, while 115 remain unascertained, and others from other causes.
