Preparations for Friday's 60th Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kericho have reached the penultimate stage, Interior PS Raymond Omollo has said.

He said everything has been put in place for the event that will be presided over by President William Ruto at the Green Stadium save for a few finishing touches.

"We are satisfied with all the preparations that have gone in place to ensure that this event becomes a success,” Omollo said after inspecting various infrastructural projects including the stadium on Tuesday.

He was accompanied by Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha and other senior government officials during the inspection tour.

Omollo commended those involved in the preparations including the Kericho County government for their dedication and meticulous planning.

"We started about two months ago when there was no infrastructure in place. I want to congratulate and appreciate everybody who has worked hard to ensure that the infrastructure that we see today is in place,” he said.

Omollo, who chairs the National Steering Committee for National Celebrations, witnessed rehearsals for the event including military drills and performances from entertainment groups.

This year's Mashujaa Day celebration is themed around Universal Health Care, a crucial pillar aligned with the Kenya Kwanza government's commitment to achieving Vision 2030 targets.

PS Omollo said Kericho County is hosting a week-long event showcasing the interventions the Ruto administration is undertaking on the healthcare front.

Mashujaa Day is meant to celebrate all the heroes and heroines who took part in the struggle for Kenya's independence and those who have made positive contributions to the country.

Several heroes drawn from across the country will be recognised during the event, Omollo said.

He disclosed that the government had selected about 150 heroes who would physically be present at the event on behalf of all the heroes and heroines.

The PS called on Kericho residents to show up in numbers for the celebrations.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday asked those who will attend to arrive early due to the prevailing weather conditions.

The DP disclosed that the gates to the stadium will be open to the public from as early as 3am to avoid unnecessary disruptions from the rains pounding the country.

"We will have our officers who will be showing you where to sit and it will be a celebration to remember," he said.
