Kisii Governor Simba Arati on Monday faulted a group of youthful MPs for his woes.

He accused a section of the youths of orchestrating the rising incidents of thuggery and hooliganism in the region.

Already, he said two youths close to his administration had been brutally killed in coordinated political revenge attacks.

The latest incident involves the slaughter of one youth who also acts as his security aide.

The victim's body had multiple bruises when it was fished out of Nyakwana River, in Nyaribari Chache Saturday dawn.

Arati said both killings bear the stamp of politically instigated attacks all fanned by the legislator.

"We cannot be indulging in the senseless slaughter of our people in the name of politics, I want to ask my friend, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to help address the situation before it runs out of hand," Arati said.

He said he had ascertained that this same politician was the one sanctioning the killings.

" All this occurs as the security apparatus are watching," an angry Arati stated.

He asked President William Ruto to intervene if Kindiki fails.

"How long are you going to be silent as people get slaughtered like chickens in Kisii?" he posed.

"How many more do you want to see killed before you act?"

The Governor said he has received intelligence that a killing mob has been set up by the said politician to target more of his supporters.

Going forward, it would force wananchi to take the law into their hands to protect themselves, he added.

"Before it gets there please act," Arati told Kindiki on Monday.

The Kisii County boss was speaking during a national tree planting day at the foot of Ensaria.

He was joined by Prof Edward Kisiangani, PS ICT during the national tree planting exercise.

Hundreds of seedlings were planted during the joint effort between the County and National government.

Kisiangani, on his part, said the current effects of climate change inform the need for more robust conversations geared toward addressing the phenomenon.

"One of the pillars of the government and where all other leaders, irrespective of party affiliation converge in, is climate change," he said.

He said while Agriculture was crucial, ensuring a sustainable environment that backs production is critical.

"If we won't do something to the ongoing climactic changes, we will perish. Our children will have nowhere to live, "the PS said.

Kisiangani said blue gum continues to pose great ecological challenges and thus needs to be replaced especially from water catchment areas.

"We must get concerned by a species of tree that consumes more water than us. This is why I ask our people to act on them and start planting trees that can conserve water," he said.

Kisiangani said water scarcity has sparked resource wars in other places and Kenya was no exception if mitigation measures are not made.

Without proper steps to mitigate climate change, the country stands on the threshold of becoming a desert," the PS noted.

And speaking on raging supremacy battles, Kisiangani said there is a need for unity among the leaders to foster development.

He asked other political leaders to work together with the governor for the common good of the residents.

He said it was not time for divisions among leaders but unity so people enjoy services from the county or national government alike.

He said people can always chart their political paths when elections come.

"For now we must respect the choices we made and work with them.

He said the William Ruto government does not condone violence even as he asked County Commissioner Tom Anjere to act to stem the loss of further lives.

"The government does not support goons and violence, it supports the law, whoever is fomenting violence is acting on his own," the ICT PS said.

Arati separately said he has a roadmap on how he will develop the County and was ready to work with the willing MCAs.

On trees, he said are underway to start a nursery Which will provide more than 500,000 seedlings for the residents to plant.

Already 2,000, seedlings have been planted at Ensaria forest.

At least 102,000 seedlings have been planted by the County across major water towers in the region, he said.

In addition, he said the youth will be provided with beehives to help them generate income and help conserve the environment.

Already his administration has allocated half of Ensaria Hill to Equity and another half to Lake Basin for tree planting.

County Commissioner Tom Anjere said the lack of adequate land continues to pose challenges in mitigating climate change effects.

At least 262 sites were identified for planting trees across the region for the Monday exercise which was carried out countrywide.

Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda on his part cautioned against the arbitrary cutting of trees

He asked the residents to prioritize tree farming even as they engage in other economic activities

County Speaker Philip Nyanumba urged County Commissioner Tom Anjere to ensure security across the region is beefed up

He said it is a pity was one MCA was recently attacked and no arrests yet.
