In a devastating incident on Tuesday night, a house fire in Nauren Regae village, Kakuma Turkana West Sub County, resulted in the tragic demise of a mother and her four children.

Deputy County Commissioner Turkana West, Mwachaunga Chaunga, confirmed the heartbreaking incident that occurred around 23:50hrs in Nauren Regae village.

Among the victims identified by Chaunga were 20-year-old Pamela Aregae, along with her 9-month-old daughter, her 12-year-old sister, an 8-year-old daughter of Pamela’s friend, and a 3-year-old daughter of a neighbor.

The cause of the fire remains shrouded in mystery.

Chaunga speculated, "It's presumed that the motorcycle parked inside the kitchen caught fire, resulting in an explosion. All items were burnt beyond recognition. Efforts to rescue the bodies are underway," as mentioned in the police statement.

Eyewitness accounts, however, present an alternative theory, suggesting an improperly extinguished charcoal stove left unattended in the same room as a parked motorcycle may have sparked the tragedy, contributing to the rapid spread of the fire.

Emergency responders, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), police officers, Turkana West Sub-county officials, village elders, and neighbors, swiftly converged on the scene.

Despite their prompt efforts, the fire had already consumed the house, leaving no survivors.
